Our Process
How We Coat a Garage Floor
From bare concrete to a finished floor: each step Summit Garage Designs takes, and why it matters.
A Coating Is Only as Good as the Prep
Most coating problems start below the surface. A coating that sits on smooth, sealed concrete can lift when hot tires grip it or when moisture pushes up through the slab.
So Summit Garage Designs spends much of the job on the concrete itself. A ground, repaired slab lets the coating bond into the concrete instead of sitting on top of it.
- The slab is diamond ground, not washed or etched
- Cracks and pits are filled before any color goes down
- Each coat goes on at the right thickness
- A clear top coat seals the finished floor
Protect and Inspect
We protect the walls, doors and anything that stays in the garage, then check the slab for cracks, stains, old coatings and moisture.
Diamond Grind the Concrete
Diamond grinders open the surface of the concrete so the coating can grip it, and take off old sealers, paint and stains. The dust goes straight into a vacuum.
Repair Cracks and Pits
Cracks, chips and holes are filled and ground flush, so they do not show through the finished floor.
Apply the Base Coat
The base coat bonds into the prepared concrete and gives the floor its color. It goes on evenly, edge to edge.

Broadcast the Color Chips
Decorative chips are spread across the wet base coat in the blend you picked. They add color and texture, and they help hide dust and wear.
Seal With a Clear Top Coat
A clear top coat locks the chips in, gives the floor its finish, and can carry a grip additive where you want more traction.
